Apple Bread – My First Real Bread!

I made a real proper bread, one that you may buy in a good bakery and I am so proud

I made a real proper bread, one that you may buy in a good bakery and I am so proud of myself that all my friends know about it. My adventure with breads has started some time ago. After baking rosemary, raisin and almond bread for the very first time, I had the feeling that the world stood still for a second and I made an unique discovery that has rocked my world. But then I met with Śliwka, who’s given me a starter (I am glad that I could start baking without creating one by myself, but I promise to make my own eventually) and an easy recipe to start with. I took both and that was time when the world really stood still. Ladies and gentlemen, I made a bread. And it’s awesome. And I’m in love with the process. And the next step will be Tartine Country Bread.

For this recipe you need to have a starter. I was lucky to get it from a friend, so if you want to make the whole process much easier, ask your friend or buy it in a store.

You will need:

  • 150 g active starter
  • 500 g wheat wheat flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 small apple cut in small cubes
  • 350 ml warm water

In a bowl mix all the ingredients, place it in a form lined with a baking paper. Cover with a silver foil and leave in a warm place for about 8h.

Bake in 200*C for about 40 minutes.

Enjoy, Marta

Hello! I’m new here and I have quick q, “active starter” is the same as active yeast, right? I’m sorry if the question is too basic but I’m somewhat new to the whole baking thing so I wanna make sure I’m doing everything right. Love your blog by the way!

Question: Is the starter you used 100% hydration (equal parts flour and water)?
