I’m already back in Berlin, after two memorable weddings, being a fake tourist in Amsterdam, being a fake tourist in London and eating a lot. Obviously holiday doesn’t mean that I’ve avoided cooking, but thanks to that, I can present you today a recipe for an Austrian omelette. It is sweet, contains raisins, a bit of sugar and is served with fruits – it’s fast, efficient and delicious. This time I had two helpers – Tomasz, who actually did something, and Kevin, who contributed a conversation. And if you ever had a problem with choosing a movie, you should definitely visit Kevin’s website: What movie should I watch tonight. What movie should I watch tonight. We like to mix a bit, so we did make some fried bacon, it went great with a sweet omelette.
You will need:
- 5 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- 5 tbsp white sugar
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup raisins
- 2 tbsp butter
- confectioners’ sugar, for dusting
- fresh fruit
Listed ingredients were enough for 3 people.
In a large bowl combine eggs, milk, vanilla, salt and sugar. Slowly stir in the flour until the mixture becomes smooth. Add the raisins.
In a large skillet melt the butter and pour the egg mix. Fry over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until the bottom will get nicely gold, and the top is set. Now try to flip the omelette. It is not an easiest task. Large spatula will definitely help, but do not worry if the omelet will freak in parts. Cook the other side for another few minutes, then divide omelet with a spatula into small squares.
Serve with fruit, powdered sugar.
While eating my breakfast, I was non-stop glancing at the sight of the window, as with such a beautiful view everything tastes fabulous. I miss canals the most.
I’d also like to show you few pictures from the vegetarian wedding in Amsterdam. Tables were decorated in a lovely way, plates were full of delicious vegan food with a bit of extras like eggs or yoghurt. The food was so amazing, that even a meat lovers totally forgot about it’s existence for time beeing.
London amazed me with it’s food and restaurants all the time. Not only I had a professional cook at home (he’s wife is a lucky gal) but also I’ve eaten in a Breakfast Club, a place created for those who love breakfasts. Service was very friendly, place has a lovely interior and of course – portions were massive. I took some pictures by phone, as I forgot my camera that day. We sat down in a cosy table, straight under the glassy ceiling. Apparently we were very lucky, because food is so good that people are waiting in queues in front of the cafe. But see the pictures and the next time you’re in London, just visit this place 🙂
Enjoy! Marta

Marta, what an outstanding photography! I have really hard time taking pictures where food is not staged. I feel like I’m sitting right by you – your food photography is that real. I’ve never been to a vegetarian wedding but I’d be really interested if the food is this beautiful!

It was delicious, but I’m a sweet tooth, so for me it was a perfect omelette.
Hi Marta,
What a great breakfast treat. I’ve never had an omelette like this. Something I will have to remedy soon. Love all of your travel photos:)
-
Thank you 🙂
can’t stop admiring your photography skills.

Thank you!
Marta, not quite sure about this sweet omelette, but you know I love a good pancake, so it might be worth a try. Maybe tomorrow morning if I still need to comfort myself on my job woes.Sharon

Did you have it?
Thanks for a great recipe…I was in a quandry over what to have this morning and a Google search of “What should I eat for breakfast?” resulted in the first link being this page.Anyway, I cut down the recipe since it was only for myself, subbed in dried cranberries and used black grapes and bananas as they were the only fruit I had in the house. It came out wonderful! I know my presentation is far from pro-quality, but the image is attached. Thanks again for a great recipe and a wonderful site!

Thank you so much for posting your picture. It makes me happy that someone uses the recipe. And it looks great!

The sweet omelet looks delicious! And a vegetarian wedding? Amazing and I would have loved to taste the food. Amsterdam is a beautiful city!
-
Indeed. And I love the idea of vegetarian wedding.
Love the canal photo. What a gorgeous variety of vegetarian dishes. I should give sweet omelette a try.

If you have a sweet tooth, you will love it.
Beautiful travel photos. I haven’t been to Europe is years and I miss it so much. That omelette sounds really delicious!
-
Thank you 🙂 Europe is amazing. I’ve been living in Australia for a couple of years and I missed it 🙂
Firstly: thank you for your glorious travel shots. (Or your fake tourist shots.) They remind me to be excited about my upcoming adventure, not just stressed about everything I need to organise first.Secondly: If my dad had made this kind of omelette for me as an eight year old instead of the kidney-filled omelette he did make me, I might not hate omelettes as much as a twenty-five year old.
-
hahaha, does your dad know about it? What a story.
Hi Marta, lovely to meet you! I’ve never had an Austrian omelette before but it sounds delicious. I’ve had lots of Australian omelettes because I’ve made them in our kitchen in Australia. 🙂
-
haahah, what did you do it with? I’ll look for it on your blog 🙂
This looks good! I’ve never had a sweet omelette before but would love to give this a go
-
let me know if you like it 🙂
Sounds like a great time. Everything looks delicious! The sweet omelette looks so good, it’s like a custard kugel?
-
Hmh, I don’t think so. But maybe, I’ve never ate a custard kugel
Never thought to have a sweet omlette, always thought of them as savoury.Gorgeous photos of the wedding food 🙂
-
thank you! Sweet version is interesting, you should try one day.
Welcome back from your vacation! Sounds as if you had a great time. Nice omelet recipe – I’ve never had a sweet one before. I’ll be it was delicious. The breakfast restaurant in London sounds terrific! Love the picture of the canal!
-
Thank you 🙂 It was my first sweet omelette as well, but it is delicious, so won’t be the last time.
I love the look of the omelette… I’ve never heard of an omelette with raisins before. I really liked the photos of the wedding food though. I always think it’s so interesting when festive food is made around a certain diet… it’s so much more interesting than when it’s not, because you can’t just stick a giant joint of beef, or a roast pig in the middle and say “here you go, the star of the show”… people need to get so much more creative!
-
you’re totally right!
I hope you had a great vacation! I love love love all these pictures!!
-
Thank you! From you it’s a big complement, as I adore your pictures.
I love the idea of a sweet omelette! Gorgeous photos looks like you had a great vacation!
