. That is not a regular thing, as I don’t usually eat Nutella, but this time it was an obligatory ingredient.
I went to cafe for a coffee and I got this huge cravings for banana bread, but not a regular one – I wanted it with Nutella. That is not a regular thing, as I don’t usually eat Nutella, but this time it was an obligatory ingredient. As you can see the recipe could not be easier. I wouldn’t even post it, but after uploading a picture on Instagram few readers asked me for the recipe. So here it is. It tastes amazing when still hot (as most of cakes) but cold as well. Most probably you have most of the ingredients, I did, so I bought bananas an a jar of sweetness and run back home to experiment.
You will need:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- pinch of salt
- 1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 3 ripe bananas, mashed
- ¼ cup natural yogurt
- 5 tbsp Nutella
Heat an oven to 175*C (350*F). Grease a baking form (I used 23 x 13 cm). Mix all the ingredients except for Nutella in a bowl and then pour it to a baking form. Place 5 tbsp of Nutella along in a middle of a dough, one next to another. Bake for about 50 minutes. It’s too easy and delicious not to try.
Enjoy, Marta

I’m glad you liked it!!! And thank you 🙂
Hi Marta. This looks delicious and I would love to make it. One question though. What did you use to grease the pan? Butter or olive oil? Thanks!
-
You can use both, but I used an olive oil.
I absolutely adore this recipe, however, my Nutella never dropped to the bottom, instead, it stayed at the top and ended up burning 🙁 Do you know what I may have done wrong? Or should I only pour part of the batter into the pan next time, followed by the Nutella, and then cover with the remaining batter?
-
Did you use all purpose flour? And was your dough loose or thick? My nutella always go down, but I think that your idea with half the dough is great. I’ll use it next time as well. And where was the baking tray during baking? Mine was on a bottom 🙂
-
Thank you so much for responding so quickly. I did use all purpose flour, and kept the pan on the bottom during baking. But thinking of it, my dough was a bit thicker than I am used to with other banana bread recipes. I think it is because I used a different kind of Yogurt than I normally do. So for next time I will know: If I use the same Yogurt as yesterday, I will do half batter, then spoon in the Nutella, and top with the remaining batter. If I use may go to yogurt, and the batter appears much looser, I will give your suggested method another try. Regardless, the bread still had an amazing flavor, and you were spot on when mentioning that it tastes even better when fried the next morning.Your blog is one of my most favorites.

I love Nutella and banana bread together. I usually swirl the nutella into the butter, but I’m definitely going to try your recipe. I love that nutella is oozing out from the bread. I feel like I will end up eating double amount just because it looks so tempting! 😀
-
hahaha, Nami you will, I did 😀
Hi! This looks absolutely too amazing and I cannot wait to try it! Love Nutella and banana bread has been my fav my whole life!!! I am confused about this part of the instructions though if you could please clarify for me I would really appreciate it: “along in a middle of a dough, one next to another.”
-
Hi Candi, what I did was to place 5 tablespoons of Nutella one next to another along the longer side of a baking form. It will drop on a bottom as it’s heavier than a dough, but it worked perfectly 🙂
this is a delectable looking recipe! i have three ripe bananas in the freezer – might have to defrost them for this! xo yelle
this is so genius, marta! and these photos are incredibly beautiful!
I want breakfast at your house…this is gorgeous Marta!!

I made this amazing banana bread with ovomaltine crunchy cream (because it. is. the. best.). And I added some shredded white chocolate (because why not?). So so good!
Shut up!! This is way too good. I saw this on pinterest this morning and have been daydreaming about it all day since. (Thank you for distracting me from class!) Banana + nutella is such an obvious and classic combination and I’m preeeetty sure there’s absolutely no way for it to go wrong. Props! So glad I stumbled upon your blog. Everything is crazy beautiful + the fonts are killing me! <3 Can’t wait to see more!

Thank you Jennifer, I saw your nectarine pie today and I’m in love with it.
The cups (flour/sugar/olive oil/yoghurt) in this recipe would be equivalent to how many grams…? Thank you.
-
Hi GoLa, I always make it with cups, so hard to say. You can google it on internet. But doing it with cups is much easier. Just take a medium size cup or a glass and count everything with it. It can’t go wrong 🙂
-
There is a site called Convertme.com that is magic! It instantly converts any ingredient from grams to cups and vice versa,,etc. Lifesaver. : )
-
Cake looks amazing! I must try! Do you know if the cake freezes well? 🙂
-
No Idea, I’ve never tried, it disappears to fast 😉
I love everything about this. Simple and sooooo gorgeous. Plus, Nutella belongs with bananas. It’s science.

You’re so right Katrina! Someone should make a poster with this sentence 😀

-
I am so happy you like it dear <3
Amazing~I love the simplicity of it but still with that special little touch. So finger (errr spoon?) lickin’ delicious.
-
Thank you Ellie, I am not sure if Nutella may be called a special little touch 😀 I should most probably make my own chocolate spread. Actually I was afraid that it’s too simple to post. But to be honest it was so delicious, easy to prepare and made me so happy, that I had to.
-
Shhhh it’s okay, I won’t tell that it’s not “homemade”. 😉 And I think it’s totally fine to sometimes post something simple and not revolutionary to the foodie world. As long as it’s pretty and delicious, who cares, right? And your photos are gorgeous and you always make me want to eat (and make) what you post. So there, hehe.
-
Haha nutella cravings! Every one has them, this is a perfect solution. Love the photo’s, but then i always do.
Alles liebe, Suus from Food Bandits

hey Suus! I am glad that I’m not the only one. I’ve read somewhere that 70% of Nutella is sugar, but it’s still soooooo gooooooddddddd.
Exquisite! A fabulous way to start the day.Cheers,Rosa
