BLT is a very simple sandwich but it will rock your day. I used to believe that the best one you can get in San Francisco’s Devil’s Teeth Baking Company. But then I made this one at home out of ingredients I got on one of Barcelona’s farmer market.
You can make it simple, just Bacon-Lettuce-Tomato or you can go a bit further and experiment with additions like avocado or egg. But to know what a real BLT is, you need to go with basics first. One is sure – this flavours go perfect together – salty bacon, sweet firm tomato and crispy lettuce. The most important in this sandwich are ingredients, it will be much better with a high quality ones 🙂 You can try a homemade mayonnaise as well (very easy to make).
You will need (for 1):
- 2 bacon stripes
- 1-2 leaves of Romaine lettuce
- 3-4 slices of tomato
- 2 slices of bread
- a bit of an olive oil
- mayonnaise
Bake the bacon (I did it in 150*C, 300*F) to make it crispy. When ready, clean extra fat with a paper towel. Brush slices of bread with a bit of an olive oil on each side and fry on a pan until golden. Cut lettuce and tomato. Spread mayo on both toasts and place on one lettuce, tomato and bacon. Cover with the other slice
Enjoy, Marta
Nothing better than a good ol BLT!! Happy New Yr Marta!
I adore BLT’s. They’re a classic but they can always be revamped into higher eschelons of deliciousness like your version! I usually add some pesto in mine but I’ve never added egg. Great idea. Beautiful photos as always x
Oh YUM!!! BLT is the only cold sandwich that I’ll eat and the tomato has to be really, really good! Perfect sandwich for those large homegrown tomatoes. Happy New Year!!!
Baking bacon is really the best way to prepare it, IMO. Takes time, but it’s worth it. I love a good BLT! Yours looks terrific – thanks.
Splendid!! I’ll have mine with avocado, please. : )
Tasty looking!Cheers,Rosa
super is the key word here – it looks amazing!
What a sandwich, mouth-watering!
My husband and I look forward to this sandwich each summer. The first vine ripe tomato from our garden at our summer cottage in Maine goes to making a BLT. Yours looks delicious.
That is one gorgeous sandwich. Beautifully done as always, Marta!
You really can’t beat a classic BLT. I like the idea of adding an avocado or an egg…or both!
This one is MASSIVE, Marta! A classic. Loved it!
you had me at bacon… in fact I might go have some right now!
