Two days ago I made delicious rolled french toasts and I ended up with bread crusts. I could give it to birds, but after a long speech a friend gave me about not doing it because birds will stop to migrate feeling too comfortable in a city, I’ve decided to use them. I also had an egg mix, so I cut a pinch of herbs from my windowsill and had all ingredients to make herbed bread crusts . It goes well with boiled eggs or fried eggs or any eggs really.
You will need:
- 1 egg
- ¼ cup milk
- ¼ cup thick yogurt (like Greek yogurt)
- mix of fresh herbs (sage, thyme, basil, chives)
- bread crumbs
In a bowl mix egg, milk and yogurt. Shred herbs and add it to the mix.
Heat an oven to 175*C. One after another place bread crusts in a bowl (just cover it with a mix, you don’t want it to soak), place on a baking tray covered with a baking paper and bake for 15 minutes.
Enjoy, Marta
These photos are gorgeous! I have a box of crusts at home that I was saving for bread crumbs but I’m going to have to try this recipe instead!
Yeah agree with you completely. I want to scoop up the runny egg with these bread crust. It goes well with the your recent egg dish. Thanks for the delicious idea!
I am glad your friend gave you that talk so that we can enjoy this beautiful creation! I hate wasting food and I am sure this idea will come in handy soon
Haha…I loved hearing the debate about the bread crusts. I probably would have been similarly swayed! And for my husband who loves all things crunchy, he would have been thrilled with my choice. These look delicious. Thank you for sharing. Beautiful work!
THIS IS AWESOME. I hate hate hate wasting food, I’m nuts I even save veggie scraps in the freezer to throw into stocks, and save chicken skins for yakitori etc etc. I’ve never found a good use for bread crusts besides makign breadcrumbs out of them, but this is such a fun idea! good one, and gorgeous photos. lovely work all round xmummyicancook.com
Fun recipe! I love bread crusts, and this is a brilliant way to make them taste even better. Very imaginative – thanks.
You are so creative! Love that you used leftover bread crust to make this deliciousness 🙂
As always your recipes and pictures are amazing. Mr. T must be in heaven at mealtime.
I’ve always thought that bread crusts were the best part of a loaf, and now that has a whole new meaning.
My son would love this! Looks so good. We had something similar in a restaurant recently.
Hi Marta, I love the look of these… they’re like a fancy version of “soldiers”, toasted bread crusts which we ate as kids in England to dip into soft-boiled eggs. This makes a much more “adult” version :).
This is fantastic. I will try this trick in the future. Such a nice feeling, taking herbs from the window sill!
What a great idea! I think my kids would love something like this!
What a brilliant idea!
I just love you come up with such amazing ideas for breakfast. I could eat the whole lot of that!
Oh my but these look good!!Ali ofhttp://www.dressingken.com
what a great idea! I don’t feed the wild birds as our dogs keep trying to catch them so I save my crusts for bread crumbs 🙂
This is a fantastic idea! Definitely perfect for dipping in homemade dips or soft-boiled eggs. I think we could all learn from your example in regards to minimising waste. Thanks for the inspiration!
I want to devour this my friend, this looks yum! :DCheers
