I know them from Barcelona and my last holiday over there. We went to that small local cafe located next to our place and there it was, served with hot chocolate, yummy. It was so good I was going back over there a couple of times. Now back home I feel like a delicate churros again, so the only way was to make them by myself. I’ve found a recipe and I must say, for a second I felt like in Barcelona again. And I would never say it’s so easy to make them. Little cafe, be aware, Marta can be back in Barcelona with her own churros one day.
What you need:
- ½ cup unsalted butter (113g)
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 3 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- ½ cup cinnamon sugar
- cooking spray
Preheat oven to 175*C.
Combine the butter, salt and water and boil it over medium heat. The next step will be to mis it with a flour and add an eggs one after another. Just be sure that each egg will combine nicely before you add another one. On the end add vanilla. Spoon the dough into a pastry bag with a large star tip. Put a baking sheet on a tray and form as many raws as you fit, leave around 1 cm space between each one. Bake for around 15 minutes or until golden. Sprinkle baked churros with a cinnamon sugar (I did put them in a plastic container with a cinnamon sugar and shake it).
Enjoy! Marta

In Poland they’re usually round an known as “ptysie”, but recipe is the same. 🙂
it is not oily when you bake it 🙂 try it, with a cinnamon sugar and hot chocolate tastes just the best.
I know them deep fried, like doughnuts, but maybe baked is less oily, isn’t it?
yes ptysie with a wiped cream
