I asked a friend what would be the “San Francisco breakfast” in her opinion. She said that it seems that a city got crazy about a cinnamon toasts lately. I was a bit surprised. When someone says a word “toast” I can see a dry piece of bread. I could not believe that people find it so good. Fortunately I did not say it out loud. She gave me a tip to visit Trouble Caffee. So I went there and I ordered a cinnamon toast and OMG it was the best toast I had in my life. It was so good, that I cut it in small pieces to enjoy it longer. I came back home and could not stop thinking about the toast, so I googled “how to make a cinnamon toast like in Trouble Cafe” and somehow I discovered that they buy their bread in Just for You on Dogpatch. I went there the next morning to buy it (I also had a delicious breakfast there and I promise to post recommendation of this place on Saturday). Today I made the cinnamon toasts for breakfast. I ate it while sitting on stairs and looking on San Francisco. It was a great breakfast.
The bread from “Just for you” coffee reminds me of brioche (and French know how to bake a bread as well). I strongly recommend it and a cinnamon toasts. Especially with a big cup of a strong coffee.
You will need:
- slice of a good white bread or brioche
- cinnamon sugar
- butter
Toast the slice until crispy and golden, spread it well with butter and sprinkle with a cinnamon sugar. You can make your own cinnamon sugar by mixing ½ cup of sugar with 1 tablespoon of cinnamon.
Enjoy, Marta.
toooootally making this! Might go to the trouble of making my own bread though… god damn I try too hard sometimes!
Yummy! Cinnamon toast is a favorite at our house 😀
such memories this evokes! my mom used to make it for me when I was a kid and had an upset stomach <3 somehow it always made me feel better! 🙂
I’ve never had cinnamon toast before–well, other than a cereal called Cinnamon Toast Crunch, which is definitely not the same thing! 🙂
Haha. Great post! 🙂 I love that you discovered cinnamon toast, or at least cinnamon toast on special bread. I love that picture of someone holding the loaf. So pretty!
I used to eat cinnamon toast all the time! Never on a bread so lovely as brioche – that just makes it extra special!
LOL! I made a piece of cinnamon toast every day when I got home from
school. Of course my mother said I burned more pieces that I ate, but
… O.k. so I would leave them under the broiler too long, but there was
always more bread in the house. Thanks for the memories!
Ha! This reminds me of growing up. My mom used to make us cinnamon toast as a treat. We loved it. Thanks for bringing back happy memories.
My kids love cinnamon bread. Your toasts look mouthwatering. Beautiful city, SF.
We love cinnamon. This is definitely our breakfast, esp. when it’s made with homemade bread.
What stunning photos my friend and a lovely post to go with it :DCheers

Hi Marta!! I’ve been so busy that I’m finally catching up on my emails! Are you still in SF? This cafe is in Sunset right? I’ve never been but cinnamon toast sounds so good!
In a past life, I loved cinnamon toast. That sentence about you sitting on the stairs looking at San Francisco was especially evocative.
I love cinnamon toast too. It is one of life’s simple pleasures.
I LOVE Cinnamon Toast My mom made it for me when I was little and still love it today. Plus cinnamon is so good for you! I will take it with any kind of bread but a special one is always a real treat. Love your website!
Brioche would be my choice.
You know, silly me…I’ve never had this! You make it sound incredible so I’ll be right on it!
Looks sooo delicious! I make Cinnamon toast for my kids but have never used brioche bread. I bet it takes the flavor way over the top. I’m going to have to try that. Your photos are fabulous! xo
I’m not big on toast, and like you first picture a hard bread that scratches my mouth.Hehe:) My husband loves cinnamon toast. Love your photos Marta!
Hi Marta! Thank you for reminding me of one of my all time favorite foods. My mom used to make this for us on the weekends…and I haven’t had it in years. Of course, your pictures make a simple recipe really shine. Such gorgeous composition! Thank you for sharing! I hope you have a blessed day!
Hey Marta! Thanks so much for dropping by my blog and for the lovely comments 🙂 Very kicked to have discovered your beautiful blog! The pictures look fabulous… Going to trawl thru your posts now and read all the yummy stuff you have been cooking up here!
I used to eat cinnamon-sugar toast almost every day as a kid! Your pictures have captured it perfectly – the burnt bits, the butter-soaked top, the sweet topping. I love it!
simply perfect Marta 🙂
Hmm. I thought I lived close enough to SF to have some idea what was going in in its food trends, but evidently not! Cinnamon toast seems like a bedtime snack to me, but it definitely makes a great breakfast too. 🙂
Simple and delicious.
I haven’t had cinnamon toast in so long. On good bread like that who wouldn’t want it. I offered my husband french toast the other mother and he moaned and complained, “you only have wheat bread”. Lol. I wish I could get to the city more. Hope you are having a great week.

I loved cinnamon toast when I was a kid! Lots and lots of butter is the key. And a nice bread like this must make it incredible. Good stuff – thanks.
Veramente delizioso.. adoro la cannella e questo pane deve essere fantastico!! <3 Un abbraccio 🙂
I agree with Rosa – if you have great bread, this is quite a treat!
Heavenly, especially when the toasts are made with homemade or artisan bread!Cheers,Rosa
This is so easy but tastes so good!
