Denmark Guide

Sunsets and sunrises in Denmark are ridiculously long during the summer time (like 1-2h long), so take your chair and enjoy.

There are many things I didn’t know about Denmark. I had no idea that they have sand dunes big enough to look like a desert and cover a building. I knew that there is a lot of beach, but had no idea that they have beautiful long sunrises and sunsets during the summer period.

Here are some more things that I’ve observed while being there:

– Danish people love their sport, I saw way more runners in every age than anywhere else.

– Wild camping is illegal, but there are spots where you can stop legally for free or a small amount. Do your research.

– Van life is easy as you can get your water and get rid of the gray or black one easily.

– During the summer, days are way longer than in other places more south in Europe, so be prepared.

– Sunsets and sunrises are ridiculously long (like 1-2h long), so take your chair and enjoy.

– There is not as many road trippers as you would expect it . This is also a reason why I am not sure if I should post this guide. Maybe keep it for myself only?

– Sea food is delicious!

PLACES WE VISITED AND LOVED:

Romo was our introduction to Denmark, our first stop and we could not have chosen better. We drove into a long beautiful beach, where you could park just next to the sea. It felt like a beach highway of sort. You can not stop there for a night, as it’s prohibited, but you can surely enjoy it. There are these huge dunes that will make you want to hide there.

Hvide Sande is an amazing road up north and don’t take any short cuts, just use this one. You can stop on the way and eat something delicious or take one of the exits to the beach. I guess this is a perfect holiday destination as well.

Rubjerg Knude – This is one of the most incredible spots I’ve ever seen. A part of an old lighthouse sticking out of a massive sand dune. In the evenings, when the wind blows, it looks magnificent. We also went back for the sunrise as we had to see it again.

Rabjerg Mile – it’s a huge dune that could easily be a desert.

Grenen – this is a very touristy and also beautiful place. Two sees meet there and you can stand with one leg in one and second in the other.

Den Tilsandede Kirke – another beautiful view – old church digged in a sand. I have a thing for buildings in a sand I suppose.

Den Gamle By – this is such a cool experience. You enter a park and it’s like going back in time, to 4 different to be exact. Buildings, stores, clothing, products, everything goes with the particular time period.

Helnaes – A small island where you can get by a long road going 5 cm above the sea level. Sounds cool, doesn’t it.

Mons Klint – ever walked on a moon? If not, try this place, it surely looks like a moon.

Hareskoven – Beautiful nature park, where you can walk for hours.

Jaegersborg Dyrehave – if you love animals, go there. You will see hundreds of deers hanging around and a golfer passing by from time to time. I could not believe that place like this exists and there are almost no people. If I was leaving in Denmark, I’d be there at leat once a week.

Kastrup Sobad – we kept Copenhagen for another trip, but we managed to see a tiny little bit as we stayed there for a night. This spot was fun, people were kind of using it as a trampoline to jump to the sea. The sunrise over here was amazing.

ALSO

Denmark has some delicious seafood so try as much as possible.

My grandfather was an immigrant from Denmark, but unfortunately, he died long before I was born so I never learned anything about his homeland. Thank you for sharing your experiences there. It does appear to be a beautiful place and those sunsets – WOW!

Wow! Absolutely gorgeous. Denmark has been on my list for a long time. Living in Alaska, I can see it looks very similar.

Me too 😀 We went there for too short I am afraid. So much more to see. But it’s always a reason to go back.
