I have a small dilemma related to Granja Petitbo. I’ve been there twice. The first time I loved the atmosphere.
I have a small dilemma related to Granja Petitbo. I’ve been there twice. The first time I loved the atmosphere. It’s a cozy and quite specious place with an old school vibe. I ordered eggs on toast, coffee and a freshly squeezed juice and everything was delicious. I enjoyed lovely service, had a small chat with a waitress and spent good time over there with my book. You may say the best impression that a place could give.
And then I came back again few weeks later. This time it was a bit of surprise. It took me an hour to place an order. I had to wait 20 minutes for menu and it wasn’t that busy (maybe 3 tables were occupied with people drinking coffee). After this time I asked if I could order, the waitress acted surprised as if she didn’t notice me (by this time in the restaurant there was only me and a couple sitting next to me). I was very polite and asked for menu with an honest smile, she gave it to me and left without a word. This time for 30 minutes. I had some work to do, so I didn’t mind. The clock was ticking, I kept doing my stuff. After an hour of just sitting there and working one lady came and asked if I am going to order something. Of course I did. I asked about different kind of coffees they serve and wanted to take eggs Benedict, but it turned out that she gave me a wrong menu and I can only take eggs on toast with some extras. I ordered scrambled eggs with bacon on toast.
My coffee served with condensed milk was interesting, strong shot of tasty blend and sweet milk, kind of a thai style, and I did appreciate it a lot. Scrambled eggs with bacon – most probably the best I had so far in Barcelona. They use only organic ingredients and you can taste the difference. I took twice the same meal. The first time my bread was too toasted, I tough that maybe it’s the Barcelona style, but the next time it was perfect.
Well, in the end I don’t know what to write, so I’ll leave choice to you. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a friendly service, if you’re not, a moody one as I had today. But one thing I must admit, both times my breakfast was delicious. So don’t cross the place because someone wasn’t in a mood to work 😉

food was good although very poor service
I was at Granja Petitbo for breakfast more than a dozen (12) times in June and October, 2014. I had EXCELLENT service and DELICIOUS food on each and every occasion – whether the place was packed or on the quiet side. It is a perfect place, morning, noon, or night, to have great food in a great atmosphere. Don’t be put off by what must have been a fluke of bad service. Oh, and if you feel that you are not receiving the kind of service you want – SPEAK UP! The staff there is exceptionally nice – everyday of the week.

I totally agree with you and this is a great place with exceptional food. I did enjoy it each time, but I also wrote a honest review about the service. I did not feel bad over there, I can understand that someone had a worse day (we all do). And about speaking up – if I was super annoyed I’d do so or just leave. But I wasn’t. And it usually takes an super effort to annoy me 🙂 And speaking up about a bad service in a small cafe… well… it would work i n USA but in Barcelona? Would I be still relaxed and felt like enjoying my time there? I am not sure about it.
Looks like a great place so it’s unfortunate about the bad service. Maybe it’s worth another visit to see?
The food looks wonderful! Sorry to hear that the service was so varied though… it’s amazing how much ‘someone who’s not in the mood to work’ can affect an experience for the worse. Love your photographs. I think you gave a very balanced review!
Such a lovely place … the photos looks gorgeous… I am sure the food was yum too 🙂 Sometimes a bad service can ruin everything … I am glad to follow ur blog.. its beautiful
I guess you never know if someone might be having a bad day… at least the food was good and the place does look lovely!
Interesting that your experiences were rather different. The person who’s waiting on you does make a big difference sometimes. Sounds like a place worth trying again, though. Good review – thanks.
i love this – and great outlook and patience on your experience.
May be the workers were having one of those days, since the food is good, I would overlook the delays and slights.

This is the one of the most honest reviews that I have read. You are very kind to the establishment despite having such a bad experience. You truly love food, and kudos that you did not let a bad service experience color your judgement. I must admit that similar experiences have put me off even Chains for good.
I loved this review, so often people write a place off because they have one bad experience. These photos are stunning, and I can’t wait to make espresso with condensed milk again, I’ve not had it in years!
A delightful coffeeshop, despite the moody service…Cheers,Rosa
unfortunately good food alone does not make the place worth visiting – it is the bad service you will remember for a long time after the good food!
It’s always tricky when you get two so very different experiences. I hope that it was just a fluke on those off days. It is a shame when bad service can ruin an otherwise ideal place! Thank you for sharing. Stunning pictures as always!
What wonderful photos!
Looks like a lovely place. I do feel that bad service can taint your experience however
Well, it’s hard to know what was going on with such two different experiences! Still, the food was good and your photos are simply stunning 🙂
