Eat Berlin – Evie’s Beans, Mitte – Moved

Moved to a new spot

When I came back to Berlin after a few weeks away, the first think I did was visiting Boxi on Saturday (I came back on Friday). I grabbed quarkballs and wanted to grab coffee, but my regular coffee place on the market was still closed (8 am is early for Berlin). I went for a walk to check out what veggies I want to buy and I saw it. VW Kombi in a beautiful pistachio colour which was a cafe on wheels. It was love from the first sight, as I just said goodbye to Miss Sunshine. I started to talk and it turned out that Evie’s Beans is not only located on wheels, but has a shop in Mitte. As I’m catching up with friends, I met there with Meike.

It’s not a big spot, but perfectly designed. A big help to create it was a father who’s a carpenter (sounds familiar?). When you enter, you get the whole idea, each detail fits perfectly. I was standing there and looking. Then I grabbed my coffee and this is when the real magic happens.

The coffee is delicious, perfectly balanced and I loved my flat white. They also have cookies and some cake. It’s not a breakfast place, but a real coffee spot. You can come and grab it to take away and, happy days, they open at 8am, which is not a normal thing in Berlin. It gives you this unique experience to drink a delicious cup of coffee on your way work and enjoy it with sun rays on your face (if possible). But to be frank, I definitely recommend you staying inside and chatting with the barista. He has awesome stories to tell you, like traveling in a cafe van around Europe and trying to sell coffee on a way. This is one (next to an awesome coffee) of the biggest advantages of the place – very friendly atmosphere. You will feel welcome and you will feel like staying for longer. There’s not many places to sit, but I definitely enjoyed a counter next to a big window, where I could observe a busy life of Mitte.

The cafe is combined in one space with a fashion store, but they work totally independently, so go if even if you don’t feel like shopping.

Interesting that 8 AM is an early open for a coffee shop! Although I like to sleep late, so that’d be OK with me. 🙂 Fun post — thanks.

I cannot imagine 8am being too early! Good that you have a place you can go to in the mornings 🙂

I know! I’d love to have one place opening at least at 7 am. Would be a dream 🙂

It looks so bright and minimalistic – in a good way. Here coffee shops usually open at 7 am, but some restaurants close at 9 pm, so I don’t know which one is worst 😛

The 9pm close time is worst! O wow! My dream is to have all my favourite cafes open at 6am, so I can go there to do some work super early accompanied by a delicious coffee. Would be a dream, but it’s so not Berlin 😀

Berlin is changing each day, whenever I leave for longer I come back to at least 5-6 new spots. Crazy how fast it develops 🙂
