I love to eat by myself. It’s my time, I can think, read, catch up with news. But eating with friends is much better. For the last few weeks I had a nice collection of friends over and some of them are still here. They could not choose a better time – it’s sunny, hot and beautiful in Berlin. Most of them are discovering Berlin for whole days while I’m improving my German skills on an intensive course. But we have some time for each other in the morning. We make breakfast and talk about everything. That’s why I think that today breakfast makes you talk. It is so light, tasty and refreshing that you almost feel more energy after each bite. And when you put three girls behind one table you can not stop them from chatting 😉
You will need (for 3):
- haloumi cheese
- olive oil for frying
- 3 small oranges
- 2 plumps
- 1 pear
- few sage leaves
- few mint leaves
- 2 tsp red wine vinegar
- small handful nuts
- few red currants
Cut oranges, plums and pear in small pieces and arrange on a plate. Fry haloumi on the olive oil until nicely golden on both sides. In a small saucepan mix red wine vinegar, nuts and sage and heat it for few minutes. Place cheese on fruits, put some fried nuts on top and decorate with few mint leaves and red currants. Tastes nice with a bit of agave syrup.
Enjoy, Marta
Beautiful, Marta! Makes me wish I was right at that table.
Beautiful plating and styling!
Breath taking pictures as always.
I am in love with halloumi but I usually eat mine with sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, mint and some olives but now I know exactly what I am making tomorrow with the halloumi in the fridge!
Ha, whenever I have halloumi in the house it vanishes before I can do anything with it… I can’t stop cutting slices off every time I walk past the refrigerator. It’s a rare treat here because it’s not that easy to find in France, though this would definitely make a wonderful way of serving it (if I ever had enough to make such a dish with! :D)
Such a pretty looking breakfast…until I came to your blog, I could not imagine breakfast could be glamorous too.
This salad is way too pretty!! And so simple for entertaining 🙂
This looks fabulous!!
I’ve always wanted to try fried haloumi, what a tasty salad!
Marta, this is absolutely stunning!
An interesting combination! I’m sure I’d love this summery dish.Cheers,Rosa
Lovely chow – I’d enjoy this dish. And it’s so pretty! Glad to hear you’re enjoying the company of friends. Good post – thanks.
Marta, that looks delicious. Seeing the large pretzel has me looking forward to our trip to Germany this fall.
Looks so good, cheese and that too fried, yumm. Such a colorful plate.
I love fried haloumi — it gets that beautiful, golden-brown color with a little bit of crunch. Great idea to add it to a fruity salad!
Beautiful recipe Marta! I love the vibrant colours and that squeaky charred halloumi! Yum! Good luck with the rest of your German intensive. I’d love to learn German one day; my husband started learning a few years ago but hasn’t retained much since we’ve been back in Australia. One day!! Gorgeous post x
That certainly looks like an interesting breakfast to have with friends. Fried haloumi cheese can make all the difference.
Looks so delicious!
Love this! This is going to make a perfect breakfast for in the morning! I don’t have any haloumi cheese but I have another cheese I that might work. Thanks for this healthy and tasty idea!
That looks absolutely delicious Marta! Is there room for one more?!
