Jasmund National Park is breathtaking and great for kids.
Jasmund National Park was a big surprise for me. Firstly, because I had no idea that there is such an amazing park in Germany. Secondly, because Mia ignored the beauty when she saw a playground. After about 30 minutes of running and another 20 minutes of building a leaf boat and playing with it, we went for a beautiful walk. It wasn’t the longest one, as you can see from Mia’s face expression (picture with Tomasz) that it was not as interesting as the playground for her, but for adults it was pretty special.
This National Park is worth spending time in. Pack comfy shoes and go for a long walk. This may be the smallest National Park in Germany, but as it was added to UNESCO World Heritage Site, it must be pretty special. It is famous for having the largest chalk cliffs in Germany, but for me it was one of these walks with the best possible views. The cliffs are high and easily seen. You have some terraces, where you can enjoy the view. I highly recommend walking further than the Visitors Center, even when your kids insist on staying there.
For the little ones there is a Visitor Center with a great exhibition. Mia got so wild inside. Kids can learn a lot, touch a huge piece of ice, learn about animals, birds and insects. It may sound not that interesting, but kids love it. We spent there way too long and in the end she wanted to do it again, so I guess this is the best recommendation.
I think it is pretty awesome, that in places like this one, in a middle of the National Park, someone thought not only about an exhibition that will be interesting for young children (even 5 year old) but also about a playground. It means that in the worst case scenario, one parent can admire the view and the second stays with the kids. Then you switch and everyone is happy, children included.
