Lazy Days in Greece

I had a very specific vision of Greece.

I had a very specific vision of Greece. It included white houses with blue elements, small beautiful villages, delicious food, happy people. I found all of these. But I also found a crowd of tourists and heat. This is what you get when you go there in the season. It wasn’t my first time in Greece, but the first one in my old Thelma. I guess it is a way better idea to stay in an air conditioned room or in a camper with air conditioning. Since I chose one without this precious piece of equipment, one may say that I chose my torture by myself.

There are a few things that are good to know before you hit the roads of Greece:

– it is hot during the season, like super hot, so go there off season or take an air-conditioning with you

– free camping is not legal, fines are high

– campings are pretty expensive and usually quite full, but literally next to the sea

– food is extremely delicious

– the night food culture is amazing and finger licking good

– children stay out till late or very late, which creates an interesting entertainment option for your kid

– family restaurants are the most delicious ones and have a beautiful vibe

– I love Greece

– Greece is a country where you should take it slow, eat a lot and enjoy

We were supposed to drive through the whole Greece, but we ended up staying next to the sea, eating way too much and enjoying sunrises and sunsets. This is one of the reasons why I do not have a guide from this beautiful country. Will I make one? I have no idea. One day I will wake up in the morning, make a strong decision to install an air con in Thelma and I will go back. Hopefully it will happen within the next couple of years.

It is hard to believe that our Greece trip happened one year ago, when we had a freedom to travel wherever we wanted. One year later I miss this freedom a lot.
