Mini Croissants with Onion and Olives

Do you know the movie “La Boum” with Sophie Marceau? I’ve seen it the first time like 20 years ago

Do you know the movie “La Boum” with Sophie Marceau? I’ve seen it the first time like 20 years ago and I still love it. I remember a sene in a second part, where Sophie Marceau was sitting in a train with her grandmother, eating a croissant and drinking coffee. That was when I’ve discovered my favorite breakfast – coffee and the croissant. Years passed, taste changed, but not this. I still love it and had it like hundrets of times on my way to work. Actually it makes me feel great about a morning, so whenever I feel a little bit down, this is what I should eat.

Today I’ve made a special treat for myself – my own mini coissants. I used a frozen puff pastry, but I’m still very proud of myself. There’s a delicious stuffing inside, what creates an unique taste, and it’s not difficult at all. I’d suggest to make it on weekends, as it takes time to cool the onion mix, then refrigerate it and a baking proces takes only 20 minutes. Besides it’s so nice to sit comfortably and eat a sitll warm croissant with your morning coffee.

You will need (for 10):

  • 20g butter
  • 2 small onions, finely chopped
  • 6 pitted black olives, sliced
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry
  • salt and pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten
Melt the butter in a pot and cook the onion over medium-low heat for about 20 minutes, until golden. When ready remove from the heat and stir in the olives, parsley, salt, pepper. Allow to cool.
Cut the sheet of pastry in half (along the longer side), then each half into five triangles with a base of 8 cm. You will have a couple of odd shapes left at each end. Put a little bit of the onion mixture on a base of each triangle and roll up towards the point, enclosing the filling. Curl the ends around to form a croissant shape.

Put the croissants to the fridge for about 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 200*C. Brush each croissant with the beaten egg, place them on a baking tray covered with a baking paper. Bake for 20 minutes or until puffed and golden.

Enjoy, Marta

Those adorable little croissants look ridiculously cute! I’ve actually never tried making my own before, either “fresh” or from ready-made dough!I know what you mean though – a croissant and a coffee is a fantastic breakfast, but the croissant has to be good! If it’s a bad one then it’s just a big disappointment!

I totally agree, it happened to me once or twice, I’ve seen it somewhere and bought one and it was such a disappointment. So nowadays I buy it only in places I know or make it 🙂

They are adorable…and the stuffing inside looks so delicious! At a party, I would head straight to them.

It was a very nice connection of flavors in the stuffing, worth trying 🙂

I love your story about eating the croissant with coffee for breakfast and how it can totally make your day. I think that’s so neat[: These stuffed croissants look incredible. I never thought about putting something inside them, but really it’s a perfect idea! And they’re so mini too, it’s adorable.

I love the size, it’s perfect for a bite or two. And you don’t feel guilty when you eat 2 or 3, because it’s so petit 🙂

Sounds wonderful, only I would probably eat about 10 of them! But I guess that’s legal as they’re quite small, right?

They are so cute and small, but tasty:) These would be good with almost any filling.. I’m thinking feta and kale… mostly because I’m trying to incorporate more kale into my recipes:)

    • What should I eat for breakfas Reply

Yes, it will go very well. I will try ones with feta and kale as well.

I don’t know the movie but I can see why you’d love that scene. Croissants and coffee say perfect breakfast to me, too! Your croissants look delicious!

    • What should I eat for breakfas Reply

The movie is very old and french, so not well known. But I’m glad that you agree with me on a perfect breakfast subject 🙂

Croissants are great, and you can’t beat them hot out of the oven! Making your own puff pastry is a pain, and there are some really good frozen ones available, so that’s what I use, too. Nice post! Thanks.

Those look yummy! I never thought of using puff pastry for something like that. And I’ve never seen that movie but I’ll go check it out now.Yesterday we went out to lunch at an Italian place in Prenzlauer Berg called Cotto e Cruso. I got the lasagna and it was the best lasagna I’ve ever ordered in a restaurant (it was the kind without Bechamel sauce, which I was really happy about!). My husband got something else and loved it too and we’ll definitely be going back! It’s also pretty cheap. I think 5.90 for the lasagna and 6.90 for a huge bowl of pasta. It seems to be run by a Sicilian man, his German wife, and all the recipes were approved/made/I’m not really sure by his Sicilian mother. I just had to tell someone! I thought you might appreciate it since you’re new here. 🙂

    • What should I eat for breakfas Reply

This is a nice recommendation. If it was the best lasagna you’ve ever had, I’ll go there for sure! Thank you so much!!! I’m always very excited about new places, especially the recommended ones.

      • Erin @ Texanerin Baking Reply

Well, it was the best I’ve ordered in a restaurant. 🙂 I really, really like mine and this is a close second! I hope you like the restaurant if you try it. It has really high reviews! It’s the #1 Italian place in Prenzlauer Berg on Qype so that should count for something. 🙂
