There are things you can get addicted to and I am not talking about a devil called internet. I mean pretzels. Yes, pretzels, soft, warm, fresh, the ones I buy almost every day and have with my coffee or without, with salt or butter or cinnamon… There are many variants. In Berlin there’s thousands of pretzels and I do buy them,. I love them in a strange kind of heart shape but I prefer the long ones, that look like a small baguette. For me it’s like eating a salty fingers, so small, delicious and can’t harm you.
But obviously, during the life time you have “moments” when you realize things. Like I did. One is that my hips are not 18 anymore and I can’t eat pretzels every day. The second one – if I like something so much I should learn how to do it myself. And I did, I baked amazing pretzels. And I know it was a mistake as I’ll eat it very very often.
BTW. after 6 months we bought a fridge. I am crazy happy, I store my ice creams inside.
You will need:
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 2 ¼ tsp instant dry yeast
- 1 tsp granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- 1 cup warm water
- ¼ cup butter, melted
- salt, for sprinkling
Place flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a bowl and mix it. Pour warm water over it and mix until all ingredients combine. Transfer your dough on a floured surface and knead for about 10 minutes. Add a bit of flour if needed, dough should not be sticky anymore. Transfer the dough into a bowl brushed with an oil and put into a warm place for 30 minutes (you can heat an oven to 50*C and leave it over there).
Place the dough on a floured surface and cut in 6 equal pieces. Then roll each of them in a shape of a long rope, when ready shape it into pretzel (it’s like making a heart shape).
Transfer pretzels on a baking tray covered with a paper. Melt the butter and brush pretzels with half of it. Bake in 220*C for about 12 minutes, until golden brown. When ready, brush it with the rest of the butter, sprinkle with salt and eat when still warm.
Enjoy, Marta

And a third comment because I forgot to mention the pretzels. They look lovely! 🙂
And he says hi!
Hahaha. Marta… you are the best. “I store my ice creams inside.” I wanted to give you a big huge after reading that sentence!Oh and by the way… I called Alex in to look at some of your pictures and then I showed him what I did today (picture wise) and he laughed so hard. He told me that tomorrow I must watch the photography + Photoshop tutorials he got me. 😉
I have also loved pretzels for so long and are a treat because in Canada where I am from they are not easily found (I do not count the little dried prepackaged ones) and so I can rarely pass them by. I had never thought of them for breakfast though until a few years ago when I was in Munich and they were on the breakfast in the hotel. So simple with a cup of coffee. Thank you for the recipe so that we can have those same simple breakfast while reading a book on a Sunday morning. PS if you are going through the US and see a place called Auntie Annies get their original pretzel…you will not be disappointedCheers,
Lorne

I think a fridge is fairly essential. I’m not sure how you coped without it. These pretzels won’t fit into my grain-free regime but I sure can appreciate the beauty of you moulding that dough.
Yay for the new fridge! And for ice cream! And wonderful homemade pretzels! Those look incredibly good.
What delicious looking pretzels!
Congrats on the fridge! I love pretzels, but have never made them. And I know they’re reasonably easy to do. You’ve definitely inspired me – thanks.
I used to make homemade pretzels all the time when I worked as a pastry chef but I’ve never made them at home. What is wrong with me? I must make these immediately.
Love the action shots! I am not much of a pretzel fan but i like trying out recipes at home. This would be helpful!
Just baked them! They were LOVELY! Thank you!
