I’m back in Berlin, cold Berlin. It was snowing today, even though it’s Spring. But before I got here I did not sleep for 24h trying to avoid a jetlag (it did not help) and got stuck on the airport in Amsterdam. I used to live over there for 2 years, so it wasn’t too bad, but we were so tired that we’ve decided not to go to the city. We were supposed to fly back to Berlin in the morning, but due to delay we had to wait 5 hours. We were a bit annoyed because we were supposed to pick up Ryszard and it complicated our plans. But after a longer conversation with KLM customer service and asking about letting us on an earlier flight, we got coupons for food on the airport (they did not send us home earlier). We had a Heineken and some typical Dutch snacks and after 7h we were sitting with Ryszard at home. I am still jet lagged, but he helps me by making me pet him all the time (I think he’s forgiven me leaving him for 2 months).
I am back, but I’d like to share with you few places in San Francisco that I think are worth eating in. Maybe you’ll visit one of them while you’re in this amazing city.
My favorite one for breakfast will be Just For You – I wrote about it already, but it’s worth reminding.
Pork Store Cafe – there are two locations and I ate in both of them. One on Valencia St. is great for lunch or dinner. They serve big plates rich with delicious food.
Pork Store Cafe on Haight St. was located quite close to my apartment and there’s always a line in a breakfast or lunch time, but it’s definitely worth waiting.
Escape from New York pizza – they use only organic products and their pizza made my evenings from time to time. You can drop in for a fast slice or order to home. Great service as well.
Trouble Cafe – worth visiting after a party night for a fresh coconut (it heals) and a heavenly cinnamon toast. They also serve great coffee.
Devil’s Teeth Baking Company – this place had a delicious BLT. You may think that it’s easy to make a good one, but they make the best one. They also have delicious pastries.
Market In Ferry Building – I wrote about it as well. I went back a couple of times and each time I had something yummy.
Ryoko’s Japanese restaurant & bar – another place where you have to wait to get in, but their sushi is worth it plus prices are very reasonable.
Sam’s Diner – I’ve heard that they have great burgers and it’s surely true.
Delancey Street Restaurant – Beautiful service, good food for a very reasonable prices. Plus they support a good cause (check out their website), so it’s a must place on your list.
Craftsman & Wolves – their cakes are a bit more expensive, but when you try one you feel like you are in heaven. They also look like a small pieces of art.
Blue Bottle – I adore their coffee.
Humphry Slocombe – if you’d like to try a bacon ice cream or curry ice cream this will be a place to go. I went there at 9pm and there was a line. They’ll let you try as many flavors as you want and you’ll love it.
Gussies chicken and waffles – I’ve heard about combining waffles and a chicken in one meal, but I had to try it and I did in this lovely place.
La Boulange Bakery – their open sandwiches are definitely worth trying. I had about 5 different and each of them was good. My favorite location was on Cole St, where staff is always welcoming and helpful.
The Mill – they have a great coffee and bread. At least this is what I had over there.
I’d also recommend Panini Cafe for take away sandwiches. Whenever we were going on a day trip we were buying ours over there and I could not wait to for a right time to eat them.
Mel’s Drive In – like for me it was a must experience. Do you remember old american movies in which teenagers were going to drive-ins, eating in their cars and were served by cute waitresses on roller-skates? This is the place.
Wow! This is such an amazing, comprehensive list. I’m from a city near SF and I haven’t even been to half of these! I’ve been to Humphrey Slocombe, Mel’s and a few others, but now I have a bunch to add to my list when I go back home–thanks! Gorgeous photos btw!
I’m glad you made it home safely! Your cat must of missed you like crazy. This is such a delicious round-up!
Great picks, and I love every picture of it! Are some of the photos from Instagram? I have to find you… 🙂
I hate flight delays! And flying in general has become rather annoying. Some great stuff that you’re sharing with us. I image you and Ryszard were totally delighted to see each other!
I would love that open sandwich! A luscious one. My mouth waters…

What a great collection of food, especially that delightful lemon meringue pie. I know all about long stays in airports and all I can say is that a laptop can be your best friend.
I will have to send this to my cousins who live in SF. Great post!
Welcome home! It’s amazing that it is snowing. Last year it snowed in Scotland in May. I stopped wearing my watch to prevent jet lag 🙂
So many great recommendations, and now I’m officially hungry! 😉
I’m going to be there for a week this July! I’ll have to hit up these places!
Thanks! I can’t wait to go there and try them all!!!
I feel like I want to go back to san francisco NOW.
