Vacations with 1 year old. Is it still vacations?
Adventure is my second name, straight after exhausted, sleepy, determined, hungry for new. I’ve decided that I need a break. And I went to Lisbon for a few days. I landed in this beautiful city that I love, I collected all the luggage, Mia in her safety seat, my suitcase as big as my apartment and I stopped for a moment. I looked around, looked at Mia and thought – WTF! When did I start to think that going on holiday with my 1 year old without any help equals holiday?! Have you ever tried it? If not – don’t. It’s nothing like the holiday at all. I did have fun, thanks to super exciting Sanda. She also saved me during my tiny break down. It was a challenge to walk around Lisbon with Mia in a carry bag up front, camera bag on one and Mia’s stuff package on the other arm. I did it! It had nothing in common with relaxation, unless you see a workout as one, but I did it. What I did and I am glad about:
– I spent an amazing time with a friend,
– ate far too many pastels de nata,
– saw beautiful places,
– enjoyed my kid’s company,
– saw how others like her, which is pretty amazing to observe,
– ate some more Portuguese food (yupeeeeeee),
– planed my super bright future (ok only a part of the next year),
– observed how a mother of two managed it way better than I did.
I read it and I laugh, but let’s be honest – holiday with a small kid without help is not a real holiday. It’s adventure, it’s funny, it’s new and exciting, but if you count on resting – change your plans.
You know what’s crazy? I want to do it again. And then I’ll land in a beautiful place and I’ll start to think… WTF I’ve been thinking!
