I know that there’s a season for strawberries and you’ve already seen like 100s of recipes. But check out this one. I’ve found it on this My New Roots blog and I felt in love with it. I love stravberries but usually have them with sugar. This one are spicy, so spicy and delicious. I ate them with my morning poridge, and then finished it with a spoon. I ate everything I made. It was that good.
You will need:
- 1 kg strawberries
- zest of ½ orange
- ½ vanilla bean, scraped
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 star anise
- 1 teeny pinch sea salt
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- ¼ tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tbsp raw honey or agave
Cut the strawberries, place in a jar or a bowl. Add all other ingredients and smash the berries extracting their juices (I used a fork), but leaving some of the whole. Cover the container and place it in a fridge for an hour.
Enjoy, Marta

Thank you Angie!
Yum! We have wonderful strawberries in Southern CA – I’ll have to try these!
-
I strongly recommend it, and I’m sure it won’t stay in a fridge for a long time 😉
love. we’d call these “fragole macerate” in Italy (Amelia from http://www.ztastylife.com)

It sounds beautiful 🙂
I loved this recipe so much I made some and mixed it into ice cream to form a berry ripple. I’ve accredited you in the post, thought you might like to know 🙂 http://www.bake-online.co.u…

thank you, I so recommend it. I eat it almost each day, hahaha.
Funny! I’m sitting here writing a post for strawberry sauce but mine’s just plain old boring strawberry sauce. This sounds delicious! And hey, strawberry season just started for us so strawberry recipes are totally acceptable. Who cares if everyone else has had strawberries since February or something crazy. 🙂 (I actually cared and it was driving me crazy but now that they’re here, I don’t care) I have berry recipes lined up for every post in the next few weeks. Yay berries!
-
yey berries! I’m collecting every recipe with berries. Eat them like each day and still love it! And we had ours late but at least it’s delicious 😉
This is simply perfect. Glorious, glorious colours; it makes me think of summer and sunshine 🙂

Thank you Hannah!
Mmm I love strawberries. This sounds so good with the ginger, cinnamon and vanilla bean. It has the perfect combination of spices in it. I kinda want this over some chocolate ice cream [:
-
thank you rikkisnyder. I’d love to see this recipe on some of your beautiful pictures.
I bet that sauce has a fantastic warm, spicy flavour. Perfect on my yogurt in the morning, or a nice bit of ice-cream 😀
-
I add it to everything lately. I also bought ice creams that I haven’t been eating for years. And I’m sure it will be delicious with a yogurt!
Thanks for stopping by my blog! I hope it felt like an old friend. 🙂 I can’t wait to try this recipe. I love spiced fruit, especially on ice cream! Think I can justify having that for breakfast?
-
of course! 😉
this would be amazing with icecream!http://www.bake-online.co.uk

Thank you Kankana, I bought it on a flee market in Berlin 🙂
Such a gorgeous meal… perfect for weekend… nah, I’d eat it every morning:)
-
I would as well, but it’s too good to leave it in a fridge 😉
Looks fantastic! Especially with the porridge. That is such a pretty bowl!

Thank you! I bought in on a flee market in Berlin
oh yum, this sounds awesome! i bet it would be great just on top of vanilla ice cream or greek yogurt, too. mmm!
-
oh yes, this is another good idea 🙂 will try it as well, thank you Amy!
I usually have my strawberries as is (or with sugar or cream), but this looks really interesting. And nothing’s better with porridge than strawberries.
-
You will love it 🙂 And it takes only a couple of minutes to make it 🙂
Wow! This must have terrific flavor. I love savory seasonings + strawberries. Really nice – thanks.
