Starting the Van Season in Basteibrücke

I realised that going for the weekend van trips may be my thing as well.

Tiny spoiler – our camper got stolen after this trip, so the beginning of the season is at the same time the end of the season for us.

It’s time to start the van season! We packed lightly, which means pots, pans, guilt, extra blankets, food, tanked 100l of water and start the engine of our van. While we were leaving Berlin, with each kilometre I became more and more happy. Not because I don’t like the city, but because we were on the road again. You see, being on the road is addictive and once you experience it and fell in love with it, you kind of want to do it all the time.

We did not drive far, only about 3h south to Basteibrücke and this is the time when I realised that going for the weekend van trips may be my thing as well. The great thing about this spot is, that there is a legal camper parking. You need to pay around 11 euro for 24 hours and you can enjoy the sunset and sunrise with the most amazing views. And it’s only like 5 minutes walk!

We got there pretty late, made a walk through the bridge and went back to the van. I made us some scrambled eggs with toasts and tomatoes and I almost cried out of happiness. “Weirdo” is what Tomasz calls me in these moments. Going to bed in our car was even more awesome. It was raining and pretty cold, so we turned on the heating and guess what – it was working! With this kind of the beginning, it could get only better.

I got up at 5am, made a nice cup of coffee, tried to wake up Tomasz and Mia, they totally ignored me, so I went for the sunrise alone. No-one was there.

Can you imagine having such a beautiful and unique spot just for yourself? It is possible. You just need to drive there and stay for a night off the season. To be honest, it was so beautiful, that I forgot to drink my coffee and it hardly ever happens.

If you’re living in the area or you fancy a nice weekend trip, this is your place. The best solution would be to travel by van. But if it’s not possible, there is a nice hotel with the best view on top. No idea what the prices are, as we chose the 11 euro for 3 person “car version”.
