I love this tea. I used to drink it quite often when I’ve been traveling in Thailand. The sugar gives you a kick and it feels almost like after coffee. Almost. Mr T. is in Portugal, I watch his instagram every day and I miss him and traveling. Backpack on my backs, comfy shoes and clothes, sun on my face and no plan. I made a longer travel twice. Once for almost a year with Mr T. in Asia, the second time 6 months in South America just by myself. I have an amazing memories from both. But there’s something special in travelling alone. You find yourself in different situations, meet different people, discover yourself. Hopefully I’ll make it again sometime soon.
You will need:
- black tea, strong
- sugar
- whole milk
- coconut milk
- ice
Boil water and brew a pot of strong black tea with ½ cup sugar (thai tea is sweet). Let it cool. In a glass mix whole milk with coconut milk (half half). Place ice in a glass, pour 2/3 of tea and 1/3 of milk mix.
Enjoy, Marta
I’ve been looking for a recipe for this! Will try it next weekend 🙂
Interesting. I’ve used tea bags for this before and condensed milk, but on one occasion, I saw the thai restaurant use creamer and pre-sweetened milk. They also use a rooibos for the color, but I’m not sure where that leaves you in terms of flavoring. To each his own! I love that photo by the way!
I wish I had the courage of backpack travel. I make all kinds of scenarios that scare me away before I even start packing. Now I need one cup of this tea! Love the addition of the coconut milkhttp://www.roxanashomebakin…
I didn’t even know that this was a thing! It sounds good. I’m kicking myself that I just used half a can of coconut milk in something else!
Hi Marta , after read it just ‘d like to corrected the ingredient , the real Thai tea we use Thai tea , sugar , sweet condensed milk , evaporated milk and whole milk (many kind of milk but only a few quantity). Some time I had found that some blogger put cadamom into Thai tea , very strength :(.Almost spice in Thailand it ‘s for curry , coconut milk for curry and Thai dessert. Anyway in my opinion coconut milk may alternative for evaporated milk. Below I’ve shared yr guys about Thai tea ingredients. So I ‘d like to thank you yr guys that love Thai tea. Special thanks for Marta about this post.
I love Thai Tea so much! And yes, it can be too sweet. But so so good :DPinned!!
Ooh, what a great sounding mix! Pretty photos, too.
This looks beautiful Marta! Ah, I miss my husband when he goes away too. It’s nice that you can somehow share his experiences through Instagram (neither Aaron or I have Instagram, I think we need to get it!). I’ve never drunk an Asian style of coffee or tea. Sounds very interesting.
Okay that picture is BEYOND DELICIOUS!!!! Thai tea is my new favorite! 🙂 🙂
I love traveling too! This tea is amazing!

I have been wanting to try making thai tea, but I thought it was a different kind of tea for the base? Just regular ol’ black tea, huh?
Beautiful. Love the lighting & atmosphere.I have always wanted to travel alone to someplace exotic…I don’t think Paris is quite off the beaten track. 😀
oh this sounds much more healthful than those with lots of condensed milk,we certainly like coconut milk addition more, refreshing sip 🙂
I know what you mean about traveling, especially foot traveling. It’s hard, tiring, and rejuvenating and I miss it, too. But life does goes on. 🙂 Thank you for this Thai tea recipe! It simple and I can use some of the black tea I already have rather than buy “Thai tea” (which my husband finds too “clovey”. Love the use of coconut milk and your picture is lovely!
I am so impressed that you have managed to make tea look so delicious – great photo!
I just love seeing that milk streaming into the dark tea. What a beautiful and active shot, my friend. And traveling alone is truly special. Once Lucy gets a bit older, I hope to go on another solo trip. Thank you for sharing!
Great looking tea – terrific photo. And a good recipe!
I buy Thai tea from the Asian store a lot – didnt realize you can easily make it at home. Do you think I can substitute whole milk for nondairy milk? or use all coconut milk?

you can always try. Or maybe you could replace milk with vegan condensed milk? Could work as well. Ans as long as you think it’s tasty, it works 🙂
Thai tea, my favorite!!! Beautiful photos as always 🙂
Sounds like a luxurious way to start the day or for when that afternoon slump hits. I wish I could just take off on a trip and get lost, sounds heavenly. Hope you are having a good week.

stunning photos yet again! this looks delicious xx
the tea looks really good and I’ve been wanting to try it. Your version is different from others I’ve seen online that use condensed milk. I hope to travel (backpack) on my own some time.

Yes, you can use condensed milk, but it’s already sweet with sugar, so I make mine without 🙂
This sounds soooo good. I think I’ll try both ways with condensed milk and your recipe too, thanks for sharing.
