Over the past few days, I’ve been playing in a game called “I’m a tourist in Amsterdam”, the city, where I’ve lived for a longer time and moved out from one month ago. When I stood my shoe on a Centraal Station, my heart beat stronger and I felt extremely happy, like I’m back home. A big surprise was a temperature over 20 degrees and the sun (not that common in this city, so most of people most probably felt like giving up their jobs and going to a park). I was walking around streets so familiar to me and eventually I stopped for a cup of coffee in my favorite place. Well, in every city there are places where coffee tastes great and an atmosphere encourages a longer stay. I’ve found some nice spots in Berlin, but am still searching for a perfect one. In Amsterdam I was lucky enough to find it. The place is called Two for joy. It’s located on a Haarlemmerdijk 182 and they serve a brilliant coffee over there.
I won’t lie over here, coffee is the most important drink for me, especially in the morning. I am lucky enough to have a great roommate in Berlin, who brews a fresh coffee each morning, so I can open my eyes to the aroma, then sit on the balcony and continue waking up. But let’s get back to the “Two for Joy” – a place where I used to come quite often with my laptop to work. You can sit down next to a huge wooden table in a lower level or a comfortable couch or an armchair upstairs. The advantage of the top level is a window spreading across an entire wall. The couch is directing the window and it makes a perfect spot to concentrate. But obviously, I’m not going to cafes only for work. What also matters is food, and in my case – breakfast. Two for joy will not disappoint you, as they have a great choice of a really tasty food, that by the way is priced reasonably. I went there with Tomasz (hubby) and Kevin (the owner of the “Hotel Kevin” where we stayed and what is just a private apartment) and each of us got something delicious.
Pancakes (temporary special, not on menu yet), toasts with eggs, cheese and bacon, and muesli with fruits for some of us who were trying to save themselves for a wedding meals. All served nicely and eaten to a relaxing rhythm coming from the speakers.
For beautiful sunny days (unfortunately to rare in Amsterdam) is a tiny garden at the back, where you can sit facing the sun 🙂
I definitely recommend it!

maybe one day, you never know!
I love that feeling of “being home”… I get it every time I arrive at the Gare du Nord in Paris. It’s strange because I hate that station so much but it’s very comforting in a way.I love the look of this place – looks like a lovely airy, relaxing place to kick back and take a coffee!
-
Oh, I need to go there! And I hope you’ll visit Two for joy one day 🙂
I really should do that in NYC also…I really have done none of the touristy things even though I’ve lived here my whole life! This cafe sounds so lovely. Delicious food and awesome atmosphere.
-
Actually when I was living in Amsterdam I hardly ever did touristy things. And I regret it 🙂
Sounds so nice! I love places like that, where you can linger and get great food. And for something that’s relatively simple, good coffee can sometimes be elusive – not every place serves it. Thanks for sharing.

you’re so right!
A town I’d love to visit! The food looks delicious and the café seems really cozy.Cheers,Rosa

I want to let you know that I love your blog. I came across it the other day (you are on the top page of google for, ‘what should I eat today’) and I went through pages and pages of it. I ended up making breakfast for dinner that day because I’m not much of a morning person and everything sounded so good. Thanks for all of your work!
