Wrocław Guide, Eat Poland

Wrocław is definitely my favourite city in Poland.

Wrocław guide

This year I’ve been traveling in Poland quite a lot. Most probably because I wanted to show Mia the country her parents come from. I went to cities I’ve never been to before and each time I’ve been trying to collect tips. As I get many mails with questions about different cities, I took it very seriously. I’ve visited many places but I’ll mention only a few I really enjoyed and would definitely recommend. Poland is amazing! And it’s so worth visiting. So….. here comes Eat Poland and the first guide will be about Wrocław!

Wrocław is only a few hours away from Berlin, which means that it’s perfect for a weekend away with a kid, or a partner, or together, or with friends. I’d definitely go there with friends, but this time there were only us girls. The cool part about Wrocław is, that I have a few friends over there, and they were kind enough to showed me around a bit. I went there at the beginning of February and I had fun. Which means, that you don’t need to wait for a holiday period. After all it’s always great to discover new places!

Here are few places I enjoyed:

Warsztat – Food and Gardento – this is a beautiful place. It used to be a garage and now it’s a beautiful restaurant. There is an area with comfortable armchairs where you can enjoy your coffee and talk with friends. Besides there are tables, where you should definitely go to try one of their delicious meals. I ordered duck and I enjoyed this classic dish with a very interesting twist. The cool part is that you can observe the chefs preparing your dish through a big window. They also have a garden, but as it was February I didn’t use it. And there’s a corner for kids, so again win-win situation.

Warsztat – Food and Gardento, ul. Niedźwiedzia 5, 54-233 Wroclaw, Tue-Thu 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm, Fri-Sat: 12:00 pm – 11:00 pm, Sun: 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Nadodrze – Cafe Resto Bar – can you imagine drinking your coffee and swinging? It is a perfect combination, isn’t it? That’s exactly what you can do at that joint. Mia loved it and we would definitely sit there if she wasn’t so active and it wasn’t a life treating situation for her. Yes, my baby loves to climb up and down over and over again. Talking about food – I loved my breakfast. Everything was fresh and delicious. I also liked the atmosphere, it really helps you to relax.

Nadodrze, Drobnera 26A, 50-257 Wroclaw, Mon-Sun: 10:00 am – 10:00 pm

KRVN – we went there for a dinner and the place was full. An old movie on a big wall, people having drinks, comfortable couch at the back where Mia could fall asleep if she didn’t choose to run around all the time. This place is very “Berlin style”. It made me feel like home. I had a burger and it was very nice. I definitely have to go back for a breakfast.

KRVN, ul. Św. Antoniego 40/1, 50-073 Wroclaw, Mon-Thu: 12:00 pm – 12:00 am, Fri-Sat: 12:00 pm – 2:00 am, Sun: 12:00 pm – 12:00 am

Browar Stu Mostów – this is THE place, so you have to visit it. The owner decided to make the best beer ever and they achieved a big success. You enter a huge Brewery and sitting above it in a pub you can observe the whole process. The owners are more than happy to give you as many details as you like. Passion is their second name. But it’ not only about a delicious beer that I tried quite a lot when I went back to Berlin (yes, I did get quite a few bottles and Tomasz drank only 1 of them). They serve great food too! Their chef has crazy ideas and the owners let him do what he likes. If this is not a recipe for success, what is? Go there, try a beer and have a bite.

Browar Stu Mostów, ul. Jana Długosza 2, 51-162 Wrocław, Mon-Wed: 12:00 pm – 12:00 am, Thu-Fri: 12:00 pm – 1:00 am, Sat: 2:00 pm – 1:00 am, Sun: 2:00 pm – 12:00 am

Hala Targowa – I am a big fan of markets and polish markets has it’s specific, unique and beautiful vibe. I won’t bore you with stories about me and my grandma going there each weekend together. It was fun to watch her argue with vendors though. When in Wrocław, visit Hala Targowa. The building itself is amazing and there’s a beautiful history behind it. Fresh veggies, fruits, but also dairy, meat and flowers. You can buy a few goodies for a picnic and don’t forget to grab a coffee from Cafe Targowa.

Hala Targowa, Piaskowa 17, 50-158 Wroclaw, Mon-Fri: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, Sat: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Cafe Targowa

It’s a tiny place smelling of a coffee, located in Hala Targowa. I went there for my morning dose of a caffeine one morning and was supposed to grab my coffee and go for a walk, but I stayed. They have few places to sit, where you can rest and observe the life of Hala. They also serve delicious cakes, but it’s not important. The amazing fact about this place is, that their barista Filip Kucharczyk is a world champion of the Aeropress, so as you can guess, he knows what he’s doing and coffee over there is tip top.

Hala Targowa, Piaskowa 17, 50-158 Wroclaw, Mon-Fri: 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, Sat: 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Szajnochy 11 – everyone says that it’s the best sushi in Wrocław. And it is delicious indeed. You should totally visit Poland to try polish cuisine, but with a pearl like this it would be a sin not to go. My problem with sushi places was that I had no idea what to order. Now I know, but it took some time. You don’t have to worry about this at Szajnochy 11. Very friendly staff is happy to suggest yummy dishes. I told them to prepare whatever they think is good and I was very happy with what I got. There are colour pencils for kids, yey!

Szajnochy 11, Wroclaw, Mon-Wed: 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm, Thu-Sat: 12:00 pm – 11:00 pm, Sun: 12:00 pm – 10:00 pm

Central Cafe – this place must be good as it was filled with people eating and waiting to eat. I used a “small child” card and we got a place to sit quite fast (thank you a friendly stranger!). They love coffee and bagels. So this is what you should try. But there are very nice breakfast options in menu for those not being bagel fans.

Central Cafe, ul. Św. Antoniego 10, 50-073 Wroclaw, Mon-Fri: 7:00 am – 9:00 pm, Sat: 9:00 am – 9:00 pm, Sun: 9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Gniazdo – perfect location, perfect coffee, lemonade and cakes. Also a very nice interior. They treat their coffee seriously, so if you do too, this is a place for you.

Gniazdo, Świdnicka 36, 50-068 Wroclaw, Mon-Fri: 8:00 am – 9:00 pm, Sat-Sun: 9:00 am – 9:00 pm

Marina Restaurant – a highlight of my trip. We went there with a friend for a fast dinner. She told me that she’s sure I’ll like it. What can I say – OMG! The best livers I had in my life. They serve it with raspberries. I couldn’t stop eating. The place is beautiful, perfect for a nice dinner for a couple. I had a romantic dinner with my girlfriend and sleeping Mia. In the evening you can enjoy a very nice view through big windows, even though it’s on a ground floor.

Marina Restaurant, ul. Księcia Witolda 2, Wroclaw, Mon-Sun: 12:00- 11:00 pm

Concept Stu Mostów – if you’re into polish products, this is where you should get it. I got quite a collection of jars and liked them all. I need to go back for more. This is when passion comes to voice. You can’t go wrong over there. Meats, cheese, smalec and so much more. Everything created out of the best ingredients, which you can taste obviously. If you don’t believe me, go there for a breakfast and try everything first.

Concept Stu Mostów, ul. Jana Długosza 2, 51-162 Wrocław, Mon-Fri: 7:00am- 7:00 pm, Sat: 8:00am- 4:00 pm, Sn: 9:00am- 2:00 pm

Stół na Szwedzkiej – this was one of these experiences you tell your friends about. We entered a restaurant, nothing fancy, middle size room with three big wooden tables, each one for 6. We sat and started to talk, waiting for our menus. It never came, but instead a chef came asking us what we like. That was a bit of a shock, as I had no idea that it will happen. Can you do it? Can you say to a chef what you’d like to eat, or you always wait for a choice to be presented. Well, I had no idea what I wanted, but slowly we decided together with the chef on one thing. Then he asked what I don’t like, there’s not much, but I shared it. Few additional questions and he was gone to his kitchen, which was an island 2 meters from me. After some time he came back with the most amazing dish for me. It was so crazy delicious, that I couldn’t believe how much I like it. Ingredients were amazing as well. He served with a side salad, but I’ve decided not to eat both. The main dish was mind blowing, so I didn’t want to spoil it. When I was done, I had this beautiful feeling of a satisfaction and I’ve decided to try the saladafter all. And “bum”! It was so delicious! Combination of fruits with greens and a goat cheese and olives and this amazing sauce. I don’t have to write that I wanted to hug the chef and tell him that he made me a very very very happy person 🙂 If you’re planning a visit in Wrocław, write and reserve your table ahead, as it’s definitely worth it.

Stół na Szwedzkiej, Szwedzka 17a, Wroclaw 54-401, Mon-Fr: 2:00pm- 9:00 pm, Sat-Sn: 12:00pm- 10:00 pm

Nanan – cheers to pretty little things. Especially when flavour goes with the look. This is such a delicious place, but most probably you will be blown by an interior first. The whole place is covered in pink. Just look at the pictures. When you find a good spot to sit, head over to a counter and take as many cakes as possible, even better, try them all. I did it, ok shared it with a friend, and each one was special. A true feast of flavours. Each recipe is created by one of the owners and this girl knows her cakes well. Definitely a must!

Nanan, Kotlarska 32, Wroclaw 50-120, Tue-Sn: 10:00am- 8:00 pm

Chleboteka – is a small bakery located in the Old Town part of Wrocław. They have a very nice concept – you can grab a DELICIOUS bread and go, or have a fast bite inside.

Chleboteka, Ruska 64/65, Wroclaw 50-079, Mon-Fr: 7:30am- 8:00 pm, Sat-Sn: 10:00am- 8:00 pm

CAMPO – is a beautiful restaurant. When you enter, you need a moment to look around on a stunning design, as there’s a lot to admire. The restaurant is famous for it’s Argentinian steaks and this is what I asked for. I was not sure which meat I should choose and asked for the advice. Waiters do know what they are talking about and they can explain everything very well. They will be even super happy to show you a board with all the raw meat choices. I ordered a lot. Then, after 1 month I went back and ordered even more (I took my sister so I can try food from her plate). Each meal was perfect, portions are just big enough and the steak – you stop talking as you don’t want to ruin the experience. Awesome place and great food.

CAMPO, ul. Podwale 83, 50-414 Wrocław, (OVO building, entrance from patio), Mon-Thu 12pm – 10pm, Fr-Sat 12pm – 11pm, Sun 12pm-9pm

Dinette – I finally made it to Dinette, as I was already a big fan of her sister Di. The interior is beautiful and it’s definitely the picturesque destination. I loved the fresh bread on the shelves and also a nice variety of breakfast. I guess it’s a great place for families, as you have a long list to choose from if your little one is a picky eater. Mia’s loved her waffles and our welters was more than happy to make all the crazy changes we asked for. During the weekends, it’s very busy, so come earlier or be prepared for waiting.

Dinette, Plac Teatralny 8, Mon-Wed 8am – 10pm, Thr-Sat 8am – 11pm, Sun 9am-8pm

Jadka – CLOSED this is a totally new level of delicious. If you feel like a special evening, this is the place. If you feel like delicious, this is definitely your place. If you feel like awesome selection of wines and many, many informations about it, yet again, this is your place. I am so grateful for each person who suggested this restaurant, as it was a beautiful experience. My advice – talk to your readers a lot and ask for suggestions, as they totally know what they’re talking about. Also, eat as many dishes over here as possible!

Jadka, ul. Rzeźnicza 24-25, Wrocław 50-132, Mon-Sat 5pm – 11pm, Sun 5pm-10pm

Młoda Polska – our latest discovery. OMG! The food is exceptional. My duck was so delicious that I never wanted it to finish, when was the last time you had this feeling? If not recently, I suggest you visit this place.

Młoda Polska, Plac Solny 4, Sun-Thr 12pm – 12am, Fri-Sat 12pm-1am

I’m so glad you’re doing this. I’ve become quite ashamed of how close Poland is to Berlin and how little I know of it. Our trip to Sopot/Gdansk last year was amazing and I’d love to go back. I do hope you write a guide about it 😉

If you have tips for Sopot and Gdańsk please share, this is my next guide destination 🙂 Wrocław is a must, so far my favourite city 🙂

Yep, Wrocław is great! After living 5 years in Sydney I’m really amazed how Wrocław is transforming, how many great eateries it has! I have to mention the cafe scene over here as well, as a coffee junkie breed in Sydney I’m very happy what is going on in Wrocław. Gniazdo, Etno, G Coffee Company, Bema Cafe, Czarny Deszcz, Cafe Targowa, Giselle, Vinyl Cafe, Kawalerka Cafe, Lot Kury and more. Filip Kucharczyk of Cafe Targowa has been crowned 2016 World AeroPress Champion! Oh, I almost forgot about the food festivals 😉
In my opinion Wrocław is a must visit city while you’re in Poland.

I spent a week and a half in Poland a few years ago, on a five month backpacking trip Thom and I took through Europe. We saw a lot during our travels, but Poland was up there as one of my favorite places. Beautiful photos, Marta. Going to tuck this food guide away for future travel plans. 🙂

Antoniego i okolicę. Ta część starego miasta pięknieje z dnia na dzień i trudno się w tym miejscu nie zakochać. Do twojego przewodnika dodałabym jeszcze ogród Bułki z Masłem, ale to niestety tylko latem 🙂

I think it is wonderful that you are showing Mia the place where her parents are from! My Grandfather was born in Wrocław which he referred to as Breslau being the German name it was known by when he was born. My mom and her sister went there a few years ago to find out more about his family but sadly there are no records.

It’s nice to know that you have a bit of polish roots. I can imagine that files could have been destroyed over the war. But you never know, maybe I’ve been talking to your far cousin while I was there 🙂
